Us as Leaders
The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office. Dwight D. Eisenhower
Do you ever wonder if you are a leader? Stop wondering—you are.
We all are aware of those rare individuals who seem to have it. You’ve been in their presence. They are the born leaders who have that amazing ability to inspire others, to rise to the occasion, even under challenging conditions. Even though they might come from all walks of life and look different, what they have in common is that when they walk into a room they are immediately noticed—their words are eagerly awaited. Many of these individuals have always had these abilities. Others have grown into a leadership role by rising to the occasion and responding to life’s challenges.
Leadership is an evolutionary process. Who we are as leaders, is a reflection of who we are as individuals. The truth is that we all have the capacity to inspire others and make a difference. Sometimes we just need to be reminded.
It’s been a while now, but at the turn of the new millennium, I embarked upon a new path, transitioning from trial lawyer to what I do now, as life coach and strategist and leadership consultant. Always curious about what makes a great leader, I participated in a year-long leadership training which was the beginning of a deeper exploration of this intriguing and dynamic subject. I came away with the strong belief that personal development and leadership development are one in the same.
Eventually these insights were integrated into an E-Book, Discover the Leader Within, that I posted on my website. When the Soul of Uncertainty was published in February, I made the decision to make Discover available on Amazon in a kindle format.
Whether in government, private industry or in the world of non-profit organizations, the ability to lead and create impact is an art and amazing collection of skills that can be learned and sharpened through a series of daily habits and activities. This new expanded notion of leadership is seen as a way of thinking and way of living not just confined to business. Qualities such as authenticity, vision, passion and leadership from-the-heart, are recognized as being the essence of extraordinary leadership. Collectively these qualities have been referred to as “the inner side of leadership.”
As we come full circle, most of us have a sense of what it means to be mindful. Empathy, authenticity and presence are at the core of becoming a Mindful Leader. We need to be conscious of ourselves and other people and our environment. We need to become empathic listeners. We need to have a sense of what our core values are and what we stand for.
I have an invitation for you. A few months ago, I received an email, (I didn’t recognize the sender) with the words “I want to feature you” in the subject line. I was flattered.
It was from Kerstin Weibull Lundberg, who was organizing a leadership summit, ALIVE LEADERSHIP with leaders from all over the world. She had read Discover the Leader Within and wanted me to speak about the role of authenticity in leadership.
The summit begins tomorrow and is free. You just need to register http://3falls.thinkific.com/courses/alive-leadership-summit?ref=d2eb2e and you will get a free gift from the other presenters, along with their wisdom. My free gift is my E-Book, Stepping-Stones to Greater Personal Freedom.
Hope you can join us. If you can’t, the summit will all be archived so you can download it at another time.
You know I love to hear from you. Let me know how you see yourself as a leader. Please feel free to pass this message onto those in your circle. If you want to get a copy of Discover, you can get it on Amazon.
In the meantime,

“An unlikely hero meets a modern-day mystic, who entices him to step into the greater mystery of life. In reading this story you’ll feel called to do the very same thing.”
—JOHN GRAY, New York Times Best-selling Author of
Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus
“If spiritual intelligence appeared to you in human form, would you listen?
The Soul of Uncertainty lets you peek into that possibility to illuminate your
own soul‘s journey. —RAZ INGRASCI, Chairman, Hoffman Institute Intl.
“A revelation! A wake-up call! Most all of us are looking for deeper meaning. The Soul of Uncertainty lifts up the human spirit and becomes your guide on an empowering journey of self-discovery.”—TEMPLE HAYES, Difference-maker, Speaker, Author, When Did you Die?
Our hero, Buddy, is uncertain from beginning to end of his story about final answers to the perplexing problems of life.
He is all caught up in what Langston Hughes calls “the sweet flypaper of life.” He gets stuck in some bad situations and problems, but always at key moments in his life a friend or mentor shows up to free him, for the time being. What makes different from the many famous coming of age stories from David Copperfield and Huckleberry Finn to The Catcher in the Rye is that Buddy talks to us, his readers and asks us questions like “What if you could wake up every morning excited about beginning your day.” —RUSSELL FANELLI, Amazon Vine
