Do We Really Create Our Own Reality?
If you are reading this blog, you probably have heard or read many times that we create our own reality. For years, the belief that our thoughts create our reality has been beating like a loud drum in my mind.
The bigger question, which I have wondered about at different times, is whether this is true: Do they? Just because we believe it, doesn’t necessarily make it come true, as some advocate. The truth is that we don’t know for sure. All we know for sure is that at times it has been true, and at other times, it hasn’t.
When you think back, the lives we are living today have been sculpted by the decisions we have made in the past. And those decisions have been influenced by our thoughts.
Our thoughts can become our reality, just not all of the time. For example, if you want to become a lawyer, which I did way back then, you have to think about going to law school and taking the courses that will get you in.
If you want to become a professional athlete, you have to structure your life so that you refine your skills and get in top shape. In that sense what you think about and sometimes obsess about, becomes a reality.
What you think about today, often becomes your reality later in life, but just not all of the time.
So yes, your dreams, your goals and your desires give you direction, give you purpose, give you a reason for living, even if they are not manifested.
Yet we find reasons not to take action, to put what really matters to us, on the back burner.
Yes the challenges at times are great and seem daunting, but so are the possibilities.
It comes down to what we focus on—the challenges and difficulties or the possibilities and opportunities.
What I’m convinced about is that our thoughts create our experience of reality.
Just for today, focus on how great life is. Just for today, focus on how great this next hour can be.
