TIPS FOR CREATING CHARISMA

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I have often wondered how you create charisma in your life… Since charisma is a form of energy, the question is how do you go about creating energy.. And then there’s the question of what type of energy.

If you look at charisma as magnetism then charisma can be used in a good or bad way depending on the intention of the person…There are some people that are just plain charismatic no matter what they do…But let’s talk about what we can do to create it in our lives…To me charisma is a matter of creating more presence. So how do you do that?

1.Increase your energy by exercising and breathing fully….
2.Have a discipline like meditation, yoga or Tai Chi that creates prana or chi.
3.Be aware of the phrasing and cadence of your words.
4.Eat lots of fruits and vegetables in that they contain a lot of water which is what our body needs.
5.Be aware of your environment.
6.Notice how you move or dance.
7.Be a little unpredictable.
8.Find something that you are passionate about…that will transfer to other areas of your life.
9.Develop a connection with a higher power.

I am going to eventually have a top 10 list of ways to create more charisma in your life.

FAVORITE SONGS

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Music changes moods..What makes you remember a song? What is it about a song that transcends generations? Is it the words, the feeling…the rhythm…probably all of that….Someone asks me if I know a song and I say no and then they play it and I say yes.

Hearing it evokes memories and feelings that are primal….I think of some of the jazz classics…such as “Summertime”…Whether you’re 16 or 60 you can get into the feeling of the song…I’m more into the feeling and the lyrics take a back seat..I end up tapping my foot..moving my whole body but can’t tell you what was said in the song…..

What are your three all time favorites….and why…One of my favorites is the Beattles…”Fool on the Hill”…I love everything about the song including the words…I would sit on a hillside listening to my headset for hours……Imagine was also one of my favorites…I loved Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay”…They defined an era for me..I”m thinking back now of other songs that remind of a time in my life….the music takes over and changes whatever was going on…

EVERYDAY COMMITMENT

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Is there something you are committed to doing every day? What is the internal dialogue that you go through? For example brushing your teeth…What goes through your mind? What about flossing? Supposing you are tired and you don’t feel like doing it….do you do it or do you give in to being tired?

Let’s branch out a little bit from brushing our teeth and look at what other things we want to be committed to like exercise..What’s happening with your committment to exercise? Do you think there is a correlation between your exercise program and the rest of your life?

What about diet? What’s going on with that? Can you make a political statement by the foods you buy? Do you read labels? Do you buy only organic foods? What about supporting your organic farmers and supporting the earth?

I guess I asked a lot of questions today….I think about these things all the time. I am going on a bike ride or to the gym later on in the day…maybe both….stay focused. Better yet…take a stand and commit to doing something everyday. And then after 30 days see if you notice any thing different.

TOP TEN REASONS YOU PROCRASTINATE

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I am sure that like most people you procrastinate at least once in a while. And maybe a lot more. But the important thing is look at WHY YOU PROCRASTINATE? We have a tendence to put things off…or to start something and then go on to something else. It’s easy to get out of the habit of doing something especially when there are so many other pressing needs many of which seem more interesting or more fun. It could be writing a paper or an article. Perhaps by brainstorming about some of my writing projects there might be some insight for you in your life. Sometimes I have resistance to blogging. Lets look at the reasons.

1. I am already writing on my newsletter so one project is enough.
2. It doesn’t really matter if I do it.
3. I don’t have time.
4. I don’t have anything new to say.
5. It isn’t going to add to the bottom line.
6. I’ll do it in a few days…
7. I don’t know why I am doing it in the first place.
8. I’m tired
9. It’s not the right environment
10. I have a fear of failure.

So there it is…an opportunity to look at the rest of your life.

Might this be called procrastination?…Here is a little exercise for you…maybe not so little…Identify two areas of your life in which you procrastinate…Now that you have done this…make a list of the 5 top reasons. It’s interesting to see what you come up with. I bet fear of failure is up there…the need to be perfect…always judging yourself….If you get a chance email me your reasons..I
probably will write an article about the causes in a future Letters on Life.
